Political conservatism during the postrevolutionary stage. A local illustration by the early 19th Century

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the conservatism during the postrevolutionary stage, explained from the specific local case of Ramón Alesón Alonso de Tejada (1781-1846), as the conservative solution that many new elites of liberalism tried to perform along with the complex historical situation Spain was going through by the first decades of 19th century. After some revolutionary attemps from 1812, a new moderate constitutionalism was settle in the 30s. That was considered a necessary step meanwhile all the transition towards liberalism long. It was process which made possible to keep their economic privileges, hold their network of patronage on, and move forward into the national politics and new liberal institutions.

Author Biography

Rebeca Viguera Ruiz, Universidad de La Rioja

(1982, Logroño). Doctora en Historia Contemporánea con Mención Europea desde 2009, y profesora de Historia Contemporánea en la Universidad de La Rioja. Ha realizado estancias de investigación en diversas Universidades de Nueva York, Cambridge, Valencia y Cantabria, y es especialista en el primer liberalismo político español del siglo XIX. Participa y ha participado en numerosos proyectos nacionales y regionales de investigación, entre los que destacan el más reciente Retórica e Historia. Los discursos parlamentarios de Salustiano Olózaga Almandoz (I y II), o el Diccionario biográfico de parlamentarios españoles (1810-2004), tanto en su versión nacional como local.Entre sus obras figuran El liberalismo en primera persona. Ramón Alesón y la representatividad política en los orígenes de la España Contemporánea (1781-1846), Manuel García Herreros. Un liberal camerano en las Cortes de Cádiz, la edición facsímil de El Escudo Católico y la edición de Dos siglos de Historia. Actualidad y debate historiográfico en torno a la Guerra de la Independencia (1808-1814). Podría mencionarse por último la obra publicada recientemente en Nueva York, El exilio de Ramón Alesón Alonso de Tejada. Experiencia liberal de un emigrado en Londres.
