This research contributes to the knowledge about the thought of the Chilean Americanist Francisco Bilbao Barquín (1823-1865). Specifically, it contributes to the characterization of his constitutional ideology, a matter that has not yet developed. There was an attempt of bridging this gap by analyzing the author’s ideas regarding the ideology of the Chilean political ‘pelucón` and ‘pipiolo` groups. The research concluded that Bilbao`s ideology showed a particular identity that received European, mainly French and Polish, influence. Bilbao elaborated a proposal in open opposition to the Constitution of 1833 since he promoted democratic and egalitarian constitutionalism, spreading his thought in Chilean, Peruvian and Argentine society.
