Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to expose the various ways in which the Americanist sensibility of Professor Joaquín Varela was manifested, especially in his academic and research activity. It is highlighted that his openness to the American dimension in the origins of Hispanic constitutionalism was closely related to the use of the research method he created and perfected for the study of constitutional history. His academic experiences in Latin America were also marked by that unique prism through which he saw the world, and by his condition as an intellectual with a broad cultural background.
