Published in the newspaper of the provincial government, the series The government and the opposition was written in defense of the president of the province in the case of the judicial district of S. José dos Pinhais. Guided by the Ginzburg microhistorical approach, the research aimed to discover whether, based on the four particular texts, it was possible to discover general issues of Imperial Brazil. By reconstructing the public discussion in which these anonymous articles were inserted, it became possible to infer that they were an episode of the broader chain novel on the interpretation of the Additional Act of 1834. Although narrow and biased, the window allowed to glimpse a lush interpretive garden: divided into party doctrines, with individual nuances, doctrinal contradictions and a constitutional custom. The imperial form of state was settled according to a historically shaped game of legal interpretation.
