This paper analyses prison law and prison institutions during the first government of Spanish Second Republic (1931-1933), from a legal history methodology, including the study of administrative structure of the bureau of prisons and its main government institutions, prisons officers and their training, classification of penitentiary establishments, prison system applied to inmates, and internal prison regime.
