Abstract

On October 19, 1849, an unexpected event occurred in the Spanish government.Queen Isabel II expelled Narváez from the government and appointed another government team, formed by her husband Francisco de Asís, with some figures whose ideology was absolutist. The attempt was not successful, since, the next day, the Queen was forced to rectify her position due to the pressure exerted by her mother, María Cristina de Borbón, and by the Duke of Riánsares.Despite the importance and influence that has been given to traditional and absolutist groups during the 19th century as capable of changing the political system, this rare event shows that the liberal regime had already been firmly assumed by this time, even by members of the royal family, who convinced the queen to rectify her position.
