Abstract

Introduction to "Discursos Parlamentarios", by the "Conde de Toreno". This book contains the political speeches of the count of Toreno in the Corts of Cadiz. Toreno was the most radical member of that Parliament, where he used the Rousseau's political theories.

Author Biography

Joaquín Varela Suanzes-Carpegna, Universidad de Oviedo

Catedrático de Derecho Constitucional de la Universidad de Oviedo e Investigador Titular del Instituto Feijoo del Siglo XVIII. Se ha especializado en la historia constitucional española y comparada, materia sobre la que ha publicado alrededor de ochenta trabajos. Su último libro individual se titula “Sistema de gobierno y partidos políticos: de Locke a Park” (Madrid, 2002), cuya versión italiana está punto de publicar la editorial Quodlibet de Macerata. Fundador y Director de la Revista electrónica "Historia Constitucional", codirige también "Fundamentos. Cuadernos monográficos de Teoría del Estado, Derecho Público e Historia Constitucional”. Forma parte del Comité Científico de diversas Revistas científicas en España e Italia. Ha sido co-Director de la colección "Clásicos Asturianos del Pensamiento Político”. Acaba de coordinar el libro “Alvaro Flórez Estrada (1766-1853), política, economía, sociedad”, editado por la Junta General del Principado de Asturias, Oviedo, 2004. En la actualidad prepara una biografía política e intelectual del Conde de Toreno, que publicará próximamente la editorial madrileña Marcial Pons
