Abstract

This article examines the relationship between women and legislation during the reign of José I. To that end, we have analysed the laws that were passed during that period (1808-1813). Their small presence is limited to a few decrees about education, typically an Enlightenment concern, and to a certain sensibility of protection towards the massive secularisations promoted by Napoleon.
