Abstract

The article examines the emergence of the myth about the pan-European conspiracy of secret societies in the political thinking of the Russian emperor and the ruling circles of Russia under the influence of Metternich. This concept was specifically tested in the reports by Russian diplomats about the events of the Second Spanish revolution. The study of a gradual mimicry of the mythologeme, carried out with the help of discourse-analysis techniques, has revealed its original provisions, articulations regarding the Riego revolt confirming its, and the peculiarities of its transformation in the context of Russian conditions, namely the political crisis of 1825. The article explores the key stereotypes conveyed by the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the representative of the country previously affected by the European conspiracy – Spanish Ambassador M. Páez de la Cadena. It has been pointed out that a number of provisions of the mythologeme were adopted in compliance with the questions, which worried Russian authorities most.
