Abstract

With the beginning of the Atlantic Revolutions in the Spanish-American sphere in 1808, the collapse of imperial sovereignty brought about the need to articulate new models of government. The philosophical doctrines of constitutional liberalism were then used to imagine all kinds of political projects, from moderate monarchies that opted for the limitation of royal power to outlines of republican systems. This article analyses the political cultures of Mexican monarchism during the independence period in order to verify which were the fundamental concepts that modulated its ideological structure.
