Abstract

This text focuses its attention on the constitutional debates in the republic of Nueva Granada between 1848 and 1853. In order to Study the causes that led the neogranadinos to reform the Constitution of 1843. In this sense, the work studies the axes on which the constitutional debates were developed and highlights the role of the press as an articulator of the discussion at the national level. Finally, it narrates how the discussions on universal suffrage and the election of governors were carried out, which turned out to be the most polemic and interesting in the 1853 constituent congress.
