Abstract

the gentlemen of the royal house had always been the most emblematic servants of the Monarchy and the example of court culture. A humanistic education and the practice of ethical and subordinate values characterized these characters. During the 19th century, such peculiarities disappeared according to the transformation that the structure of the State and the Royal House had undergone. Wealth and political power (usually obtained by advantageous means) were the only qualities that were needed to obtain that position. Without intending it, the study of gentlemen confronts us with the liberal utopia that defended the equality of citizens before the law and the issue of state corruption.
