The New Republic and the discussions on public and national security in the Brazilian Constituent Assembly of 1987-1988

The debates on public and national security in the Brazilian Constituent Assembly of 1987-1988 show the permanence of the authoritarian period of the military-business dictatorship, but also show advances in limiting the state's repressive power and its control mechanisms. In order to understand how the discussion of security models in the Constituent Assembly was developed, this article has sought to analyze these discussions within the Subcommittee on Defense of the State, Society and its Security, and the Electoral Organization, Party and Guarantee of Institutions Commission, beeing used the contributions of the ethnograthy of archives.
